Environmental Protection Team Leader
Location: Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite
Rate: Negotiable depending on experience (Inside IR35)
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Contract: 3 months | Full-time (Monday to Friday)
Start Date: ASAP

We're currently seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Team Leader for a 3-month interim assignment with a local authority. This is a hybrid role requiring attendance in the office at least two days per week.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical background in environmental protection, leadership experience, and the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced local government environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on Major Planning Applications: Provide expert technical advice on environmental impacts, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and planning policy
  • EPR Inspections: Lead and coordinate inspections under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR), upholding high standards of compliance
  • Statutory Nuisance Investigations: Manage complex cases involving noise, odour, and air quality issues, ensuring legal processes are followed and issues are resolved effectively
  • Team Leadership: Allocate work and support the Environmental Protection team to ensure timely and efficient service delivery
  • Technical Mentorship: Guide and support junior members of the team, promoting continuous professional development
  • Regulatory Compliance: Champion best practice and adherence to relevant environmental legislation and internal policy

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experienced in managing or leading within an Environmental Protection team
  • Strong knowledge of statutory nuisance, EPR, and planning frameworks
  • Able to manage competing priorities and lead on complex casework
  • Available to start at short notice and work within the public sector
