A local authority in the West Midlands seeks an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to investigate complaints and service requests related to environmental matters. Candidates should have over 5 years of experience in the field, especially in statutory nuisance and planning consultations. This is a full-time role with a competitive hourly rate, featuring hybrid working arrangements.
We are working in partnership with a local authority in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Environmental Protection (EPO) Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to join a dedicated team.
Key Responsibilities:
The EPO investigates complaints and service requests, undertakes inspections and monitoring, and takes enforcement action in relation to a wide range of environmental and public health matters. Depending on assignment, this may include housing conditions, environmental crime, nuisance, anti-social behaviour, pollution, and licensing. The role involves preparing evidence for legal action, responding to consultations, advising stakeholders, and contributing to team strategies. Officers are expected to work flexibly across disciplines as service needs require.
About You:
You will have a minimum of 5 years' proven experience in Environmental Protection within a local authority or similar setting. While a formal qualification (e.g., EHO) is not essential, relevant experience and a strong track record in statutory nuisance and planning consultations is required.
Contract Details:
Full-time: 37 hours per week Initial contract term: 3 months, with potential for extension Competitive hourly rate: Starting at £40 per hour (via Umbrella), negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
Hybrid working model: 3 days on-site, 2 days remote
