Job summary

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join the Environmental Protection Team. You will provide technical and professional expertise across a diverse range of environmental protection functions and develop specialist expertise to align with council vision, legislation and targets.

You will inspect premises, gather evidence, and take the professional lead on complex investigations, including nuisances and planning consultations.

Qualifications

Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health, registration with CIEH or EHRB.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support an open, collaborative team environment.
Experience investigating complex statutory nuisance and air quality issues.
Experience gathering evidence, serving notices, and preparing files for legal prosecution.
Up-to-date knowledge of national environmental legislation and statutory guidance.
Valid driving licence with access to personal transport; flexible to work evenings/weekends; respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

Deliver a comprehensive Environmental Protection Service in line with legislation, policies and standards.
Develop specialist knowledge in environmental fields (contaminated land, air pollution, noise control).
Provide professional and technical lead on environmental protection investigations, including nuisances, industrial pollution and planning consultations.
Inspect premises, gather evidence, serve statutory notices, and prepare legal files for prosecution.
Act as professional lead on complex cases and project delivery.
