Environmental Policy Manager - Circular Economy / EV Battery Sustainability

£60,000

South West London (hybrid)

Our client is an established organisation in the Automotive sector. They are looking for someone to join their Environment/Sustainability team who has in-depth knowledge of environmental policies from an EU and UK regulation perspective.

You will have a proactive response to dealing with regulatory activities in batteries, chemicals, waste and resource management as well as circular economy. You will advise and consult with colleagues and stakeholders to shape policies and regulations in these areas.

THE ROLE

  1. To lead on and influence circular economy policies and developments, both nationally and internationally, through engagement with members and other stakeholders involved in the field.
  2. To lead on battery regulations, both nationally and internationally, through engagement with members and other stakeholders involved in the field, assessing the implications for the UK automotive sector and influencing future policy.
  3. To lead on UK REACH implementation for the UK automotive sector.
  4. To liaise and consult with member companies, government and key stakeholders on all relevant subjects and documents; to solicit member input to create an evidence base and draft influential proposals, positions, responses, papers and presentations as required.
  5. To represent all views at meetings of the relevant industry, governmental and stakeholder bodies in the UK and international arena and influence the work of relevant organisations’ working groups as appropriate.
  6. To provide regular technical information/circulars, briefing and support for members, colleagues and relevant committees and trade sections as required.
  7. To keep abreast of legal, technical, policy and commercial developments in relevant fields and deal with enquiries from industry, the public and outside organisations.

THE PERSON
  1. Proven experience working in a similar role, focusing on the automotive sector or environmental, engineering, and science exposure.
  2. Strong regulatory knowledge both UK and EU – including circularity, battery technologies, and chemicals gained in industry, government or environmental consultancy.
  3. Effective communicator at all levels (written, verbal and presentational), able to effectively lead meetings, to command authority in technical/legal/political discussions and diplomatically exert influence and persuasion as required.
  4. Proven analytical skills, demonstrable knowledge and experience of at least one of the key dossiers, and of technically-based legislation in order to provide interpretation and guidance. Awareness of the commercial and environmental context.
  5. Good interpersonal skills, and ability to form good working relationships with people of varying backgrounds.
  6. Highly self-motivated, able to work effectively with little supervision, good management and organisational skills, ability to multi-task.
  7. Flexibility, willingness to learn, be involved and adapt. Competent in the use of information and communication technology commensurate with duties.
