Job summary

United Utilities in Warrington is seeking an Environmental Permitting Lead to own how we interpret and manage discharge permit requirements. You will collect and analyse water quality data, ensuring permits for treated water and storm discharges are robust and compliant.

You’ll act as the link between the business and the Environment Agency, managing permit payments and guiding regulatory policy, consultations and evolving standards across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Experience in regulatory environments and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to interpret permit requirements and translate into operations.
• Data-driven approach to monitor permits and costs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure correct water quality discharge permits to operate within legal frameworks.
• Lead on negotiating, obtaining and managing environmental permits and renewals.
• Advise on impact of flow/load changes on permit requirements.
• Coordinate with project teams to align capital schemes with permit deadlines.
• Monitor permit costs and validate charges with budget updates.
• Maintain communication with Environment Agency and internal teams on regulatory commitments.
• Develop systems to track permits and support regulatory returns.
