Environmental Officer Job Description

Our client based in Coleford is currently recruiting for an Environmental Officer to join their team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading manufacturer that has been operating for over 130 years.

This position involves monitoring environmental aspects, impacts, risks, and opportunities; managing permits; conducting site inspections and audits; and implementing waste reduction, pollution prevention, sustainability initiatives, and environmental reporting.

Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and advise management and stakeholders on regulatory changes and implications.
  2. Prepare and submit required environmental reports, permits, and documentation to regulatory authorities, internal stakeholders, and sustainability partners on time.
  3. Conduct regular site inspections and internal audits to identify risks, non-compliance issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  4. Maintain records of spills, emissions, and other environmental incidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up and reporting.
  5. Develop and deliver environmental training programs for staff to raise awareness and ensure compliance with regulations.
  6. Collaborate closely with manufacturing, site services, purchasing, quality assurance, and health & safety teams to ensure environmental compliance is integrated into daily operations.
Candidate Attributes:
  1. Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in an environmental compliance or sustainability role.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Health.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Strong organisational skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects to deadlines.
