Job summary

Tata Steel UK is seeking an experienced Environment Manager to lead environmental compliance, performance, and sustainability at the Port Talbot site. This senior role requires influencing senior leadership, coordinating governance, and driving improvements across a highly regulated manufacturing operation.

Key responsibilities include maintaining ISO 14001, managing permits and audits, and engaging with regulators and community stakeholders to promote responsible environmental practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001 and environmental management systems.
  • Experience in environmental permitting, compliance, auditing, and regulator engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental compliance, governance, and risk management across the Port Talbot site.
  • Provide expert environmental guidance to senior leaders and operational teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and sustainability outcomes.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, certification audits, and assurance activities.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report environmental data and KPIs.
  • Develop relationships with regulators and stakeholders and represent Tata Steel UK in environmental forums.

We are seeking an experienced and influential Environment Manager to lead environmental compliance, performance, and sustainability across our Port Talbot site. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a highly visible environmental leadership role where you will drive environmental excellence, strengthen relationships with regulators and stakeholders, champion sustainability, and help foster a culture of continuous improvement across a major manufacturing operation

What you will do:
Environmental Leadership
  • Lead all aspects of environmental compliance, governance, and risk management across the Port Talbot site.
  • Provide expert environmental guidance to senior leaders and operational teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance and sustainability outcomes.
Compliance & Assurance
  • Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits, legislation, and internal standards.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, certification audits, and assurance activities.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report environmental data and key performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and operational efficiency.
  • Lead environmental reviews, governance meetings, and compliance reporting.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
  • Develop positive relationships with Natural Resources Wales, certification bodies, community representatives, and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Tata Steel UK in environmental forums and industry groups.
  • Promote environmental awareness and accountability throughout the site.
What you will need:
Experience
  • Environmental management experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, engineering, utilities, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001 and environmental management systems.
  • Strong experience in environmental permitting, compliance, auditing, and regulator engagement.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and deliver environmental improvements.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
