Job summary

Murphy is recruiting an Environmental Manager to support energy projects from a Cardiff base, with travel to Aberthaw and Llandyfaelog. The role focuses on leading environmental and sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement across sites and projects.

Key duties include developing plans, managing consents, investigating incidents, and delivering reports to SHESQ leadership.

Qualifications

  • Chartered IEMA status with environmental expertise.
  • Experience in environmental risk mitigation on major construction projects (e.g. waste, water, nuisance).
  • Knowledge of Net Zero principles and biodiversity considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead environmental and sustainability best practice with SHESQ.
  • Ensure personnel understand statutory duties and provide guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with site management to ensure compliance with environmental plans.
  • Lead investigations into accidents/incidents and recommend improvements.
  • Compile environmental statistics to identify trends and improvements.
  • Develop campaigns and plans in agreement with Operations/SHES Director.
  • Prepare and review environmental documents including third-party plans.
  • Produce environmental procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Identify major environmental issues and set up controls for contracts/yards.
  • Obtain environmental consents/permitting as required.
  • Provide reports and presentations to Business/SHESQ.
  • Review pre-qualifications and tender submissions for environmental content.

A day in the life of a Murphy Environmental Manager:
  • Establish and provide Leadership in best practice in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHESQ function.
  • Ensure management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.
  • Take a lead with site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the environmental and sustainability plans.
  • Lead, partake and oversee accident / incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
  • Collate & review environmental and sustainability statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement environmental and sustainability campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Operations Director / SHES Director.
  • Manage and where required be involved in the preparation & review of environmental and sustainability documents including those of 3rd parties.
  • Produce environmental and sustainability plans, procedures and associated documentation and check compliance.
  • Identify significant environmental and sustainability issues and help set-up contracts / yards to include appropriate controls.
  • Manage and Identify any environmental and sustainability consents / permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
  • Provide reports, presentations, and information as directed by the Business / SHESQ function.
  • Input and review of pre-qualification, tender and environmental and sustainability award submission

  • Chartered IEMA
  • Understanding of practical environmental risk mitigation on significant construction projects such as Waste management, Water management and pollution prevention, Statutory nuisance, Contaminated land, Ecological mitigation, Consents, licencing and DCO experience and Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Solid Understanding of Net Zero principles.
  • Experience within Carbon Measurement and action to drive reduction / efficiency.
  • Experience in Environmental Incident Management and Investigation
