Job Title: Environmental Instructor

Location: HMP Millsike

Salary: £25-27,000 DOE

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Working Hours: This is a full-time role, 38.5 hours per week: Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Friday: 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Role & Client Overview:

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and vocational training? Do you have experience in waste management or recycling and want to use your skills to make a difference?

We are looking for a Waste Management & Recycling Instructor (Environmental Instructor) to oversee waste management services at HMP Millsike, training prisoners in industry-recognised qualifications and contributing to the prison's sustainability goals. This role is essential in supporting efforts to increase recycling rates, reduce waste, and work towards net-zero targets.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead & Train: Manage a team of up to 35 prisoners, delivering hands-on training in waste management and recycling.
2. Sustainability & Compliance: Oversee waste collection, sorting, processing, and disposal, ensuring compliance with environmental and security regulations.
3. Operational Efficiency: Maintain stock levels, manage equipment, and liaise with external contractors for waste removal and sustainability projects.
4. Health & Safety: Ensure the safe use of tools, equipment, and plant machinery, adhering to prison security and environmental health standards.
5. Rehabilitation & Career Development: Help prisoners develop transferable skills, enhancing their employability upon release.

Essential/Desirable Criteria:

1. Experience in waste management, recycling, environmental sustainability, or a related field.
2. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to train, supervise, and motivate a team.
3. Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including compliance with waste management and tool security policies.
4. WAMITAB qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
5. Vocational training or coaching experience is desirable but not essential.
6. Experience in a prison, custodial, or secure environment is an advantage.

Security & Screening Requirements:

The successful candidate must pass prison clearance, including:

1. Enhanced background checks (employment history & criminal records).
2. Security vetting for a custodial environment.
3. Right-to-work verification.
4. Social media screening in line with security policies.
