An opportunity has arisen within our environmental health commercial team as an Environmental Health Technical Officer. The successful candidate will be required to carry out routine inspections and revisits to commercial premises, deal with complaints, and provide advice regarding food safety, health & safety, and imported food. Responsibilities also include preparing reports, considering and executing enforcement actions, and maintaining records and electronic filing systems.
Ideally, candidates will have completed the Certificate of Higher Education in Food Premises Inspection / Food Control in Environmental Health (or equivalent) or be working towards EHRB registration. Meeting formal food and food premises inspection competency requirements is essential.
Consideration will be given to candidates with similar qualifications and experience in food safety and the food industry, with a willingness to study further to achieve the desired qualification.
You should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and capable of managing your own caseload within tight timescales. Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to contribute effectively to team working. The role may also require you to be the lead officer for one of the EH core disciplines (food safety, health and safety, infectious disease control/port health).
The role involves remote working and travel around the district and occasionally beyond. A driver’s license and access to your own vehicle are essential; candidates without these will initially be employed on a temporary nine-month contract. To continue employment, candidates must obtain a full driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
While the role is hybrid, allowing for home-based work, attendance at the office for team meetings is expected.
