Overview:
Buckingham Futures is recruiting a committed Environmental Health Officer or Technical Officer to support a local authority's Pollution and Environmental Protection Team. The successful candidate will provide a responsive and effective service investigating statutory nuisances, air quality issues, contaminated land, and industrial permitting compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out investigations into complaints relating to noise, air pollution, odour, light, and other statutory nuisances.
Inspect permitted premises and assess compliance with environmental permits and pollution prevention measures.
Review planning and licensing applications for potential environmental health implications.
Maintain accurate case files and records in accordance with enforcement procedures and data protection requirements.
Serve legal notices and prepare prosecution reports where informal action fails.
Work with legal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to resolve complex environmental health issues.
Contribute to strategies and policy development on environmental protection and public health improvement.
Provide professional advice and guidance to internal departments and external partners.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a local authority Environmental Protection or Pollution Control role.
Working knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to statutory nuisance, contaminated land, air quality, and industrial permitting.
Skilled in evidence gathering, enforcement action, and case management.
Confident in drafting reports, enforcement notices, and legal correspondence.
Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative and solution-focused approach.
Desirable:
Qualification in Environmental Health or a relevant technical field.
Registration with CIEH or equivalent professional body.
Experience with environmental monitoring equipment and data analysis software.
