Job description

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer/Senior Environmental Health Officer for a Primary Authority lead officer role.

What will be expected of me?

You will work in the award-winning business friendly commercial team, based within Environmental Health, as part of a 'one point of contact service' for Primary Authority partnerships. Forming part of an ambitious, innovative team who are friendly, collaborative and have a shared vision to 'be the go-to Council for business advice', making a meaningful difference supporting businesses and providing exceptional customer service with partners across regulatory services.

What might I be doing?
  1. Support our Primary Authority (PA) business clients using your regulatory compliance experience and research skills to advise on Food Hygiene and/or Health & Safety matters.
  2. Provide accurate technical and legal assistance, advice, and information to PA partners, including formal PA advice and the creation of inspection plans, as appropriate.
  3. Act as Peer Reviewer to other PA accounts managed by colleagues.
  4. Act as a single point of contact between enforcing authorities and business partners and assist LA regulators and businesses in PA partners' compliance matters.
  5. Be involved in project work to support innovation in the business, offering solutions to diverse and complex issues.
  6. Identify opportunities to extend and develop new business partnerships, which fit with our team objectives of being business-minded and socially responsible, as well as aligning to your strengths and interests.

What strengths are we looking for?
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety and/or health & safety legislation.

  • Ability to manage and prioritise caseload to meet tight deadlines and targets.
  • Advanced understanding of relevant legal requirements and what compliance looks like in a wide range of business settings.

  • Ability to interpret legal, procedural, and technical guidance and standards.
  • Ability to negotiate, persuade, and influence others to change behaviours and practice to achieve desired outcomes.

Essential Requirements:
You must meet the essential criteria at level 3 Qualified EHO or level 4 Senior EHO on the Job Specification upon entry.
  • Accredited BSc degree or MSc in Environmental Health or other equivalent relevant professional qualifications.
  • Extensive on-the-job training in the application of Environmental Health in practice.
  • Full UK Category B Driving Licence for cars/light vans.

What can I expect?
  • Full-time post of 37 hours per week; part-time 18.5 hours applications will be considered.
  • Office work location is flexible, either home (with home-working equipment provided) or office-based at Wakefield One (near Westgate Station).
  • Visiting some business partners at their premises across the UK.
