Job summary

Cornwall Council seeks an Environmental Health Officer / Private Sector Housing Officer to deliver regulatory functions aimed at improving housing conditions and protecting residents across Cornwall.

You will manage a varied caseload, inspect properties for hazards, take enforcement action where needed, and support compliance through guidance and communication with landlords and agents. A strong understanding of relevant legislation and a proactive, team-oriented approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Recognised Environmental Health qualification or regulatory experience.
• Experience with housing standards or HMO licensing preferred.
• Strong inspection, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of private rented housing cases.
• Respond to service requests from tenants and landlords.
• Inspect properties to identify hazards and enforce regulations.
• Advise landlords and agents to support compliance and education.
• Contribute to Renters Rights Act duties and service evolution.
