Private Sector Housing Officer

North London Council | £40 per hour (Inside IR35) | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid Working

An established North London local authority is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract.

Working within the Environmental Health/Housing Enforcement team, you’ll play a key role in delivering the Council’s statutory duties around Housing Standards and HMO Licensing. The role is hybrid, with just one day per week in the office and the remainder worked remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

Carrying out inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)

Investigating complaints and enforcing housing standards in the private rented sector

Managing the licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)

Taking enforcement action where necessary, including the preparation of notices and legal proceedings

Working collaboratively with internal departments and external partners to ensure compliance and improve housing conditions

Requirements:

Strong HHSRS knowledge and experience applying it in practice

Previous experience working within a local authority housing enforcement team

Sound understanding of housing legislation and enforcement procedures

Ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision

Rate:

£40 per hour (Inside IR35)

Duration:

6 months initially

Working Pattern:

Hybrid – 1 day in the office, 4 from home
