Good morning

Buckingham Futures are currently partnering with a local authority in the South West of England to recruit an experienced Environmental Protection Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated professional to step into a dynamic and varied role, combining frontline EP work with team supervision and support responsibilities.

The initial contract is for four months, with a strong likelihood of extension based on performance and ongoing service needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing expert input on planning application consultations from an Environmental Protection standpoint

Investigating and resolving statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, light pollution, and other environmental concerns

Carrying out general Environmental Protection duties as required by the service

Supervising and supporting a small team of Technical Officers—offering case support, guidance, and mentoring

Working closely with internal departments, external agencies, and members of the public to ensure regulatory compliance and deliver excellent service

Maintaining thorough records and producing high-quality professional reports to support enforcement action or planning decisions

Requirements:

Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent qualification)

Solid understanding of legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Noise Act 1996, and relevant planning laws

Confident handling a wide range of EP matters, particularly statutory nuisance and planning consultations

Experience supervising or mentoring others is an advantage

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional approach to stakeholder management
