Location: Hq Main Building, Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose, Roxburghshire, TD6 0SA

Salary: £42,194.14 - £45,552.13 per year

Contract Type: Permanent

Role Purpose

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Health team. You will carry out the day-to-day functions and duties of the team, responding to service requests and ensuring compliance with public health legislation throughout the Scottish Borders.

As an excellent communicator, you will have the skills and ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders including members of the public, businesses, Councillors, officers at all levels, and other agencies. You will need a pragmatic “can do” attitude and be empathetic and supportive but also demonstrate a robust approach to enforcement when required.

You will be committed to providing excellent customer service and be able to deal with challenging situations calmly and effectively to achieve positive outcomes.

The Scottish Borders is located between Edinburgh and Newcastle, with excellent rail links to Edinburgh and south from Berwick Upon Tweed and Carlisle. The area offers numerous outdoor activities, particularly cycling and walking.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Degree / MSc in Environmental Health
  • Diploma in Environmental Health (REHIS) or equivalent
  • Participation in Continual Professional Development
  • A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is essential for this role.
