Job summary

Reed is seeking a Senior Environmental Health Officer in the United Kingdom to lead complex environmental health matters, provide expert guidance, and protect public health across the district.

You will manage investigations, enforce environmental legislation, and mentor colleagues while delivering air quality monitoring and improvement initiatives to create healthier communities.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (required).
• Registered with CIEH, EHRB, or equivalent.
• Extensive Environmental Health/Protection experience.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory practices.
• Experience leading complex investigations and enforcement.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the delivery of Environmental Protection services.
• Investigate statutory nuisance complaints and environmental pollution incidents.
• Manage complex casework and ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation.
• Deliver air quality monitoring and environmental improvement initiatives.
• Prepare technical reports and provide professional advice to stakeholders, businesses, and residents.
• Undertake enforcement action where necessary, including evidence gathering and legal proceedings.
• Support, mentor, and develop colleagues within the team.

About You

To be successful, you'll have:

• Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health.
• Registered either with the CIEH Environmental Health Practitioner Registration Scheme or via EHRB or other relevant professional body.
• Significant experience working within Environmental Health or Environmental Protection.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory practices.
• Experience managing complex investigations and enforcement cases.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
