Job description

Maldon District Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health Manager with expertise in Environmental Protection. You will play a vital role in protecting and enhancing our local environment, helping to create cleaner, safer spaces for residents. You will ensure compliance with key environmental legislation and lead a team of officers conducting investigations, inspections, and projects focused on natural resource protection, pollution reduction, and sustainability. Collaborating with stakeholders and community partners, you will support the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that promote environmental protection and community resilience. The role is based in the district two days per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee environmental protection matters, including air quality, noise control, contaminated land, private water supplies, statutory nuisances, and animal welfare.
  2. Manage and develop a team comprising Environmental Health Officers, Technical Officers, Enforcement Officers, Animal Welfare Officers, and Administrative Officers.
  3. Undertake investigations, provide specialist advice, and enforce legislation related to environmental protection.
  4. Develop and update policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  5. Collaborate with other departments, agencies, stakeholders, and council members to deliver effective environmental health services.
  6. Lead major projects within the team.
  7. Prepare reports and represent the council at committee meetings.
