Environmental Health and Safety Officer
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time
Location: Aylesbury, HP19 8TD

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work within the Production Engineering and Facilities Department as an Environmental Health and Safety Officer.

The Role

You will develop and maintain the company’s health, safety, and environmental standards, systems, processes, and procedures, ensuring continued compliance with ISO45001 and ISO14001 standards.

You will promote, coordinate, and manage health, safety, and environmental activities across the site, ensuring adherence to legislation and audit requirements, while providing guidance, support, and training to foster a safe and proactive working culture.

This role involves close collaboration with the Production Engineering and Facilities Manager, Production teams, Site Maintenance Engineer, and other site staff to drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EH&S policies, procedures, and systems in line with UK legislation and industry best practices.
  • Monitor and report on EH&S performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring timely and accurate management reporting.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections across the site to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and embedded.
  • Coordinate EH&S training and awareness programs for all staff, including induction and refresher sessions.
  • Liaise with external bodies (e.g., HSE, environmental agencies) and ensure all regulatory reporting is completed accurately and on time.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions control, and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including production, engineering, and facilities to embed EH&S into daily operations.
  • Attend educational programs and conferences to stay up to date on regulatory developments.

  • Strong organisation & planning skills.
  • Good management and prioritisation of incoming demands.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexible, shares knowledge with Team and other departments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work from own initiative.
  • Computer-literate. Microsoft package / email / (Epicor ERP system or similar – desirable).
  • A proactive approach with the willingness to learn and develop.
  • Able to manage their own time effectively with minimal supervision to meet targets.
Qualifications and Experience
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 5 years’ experience is desirable.
  • Proven experience in an EH&S role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK EH&S legislation and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in EH&S software and Microsoft Office suite.
