Job summary

Biffa in Coventry is seeking an Environmental & Gas Operative to monitor landfill sites, interpret data and report in accordance with site permits, as well as gas field balancing, maintenance and gas compound management.

You will work Monday to Friday, with an on-call rota and 42-hour weeks, covering the Midlands. You will have autonomy to manage your diary, a company 4x4 pickup with personal use, and full training with PPE and on-call/payroll support.

Qualifications

• Basic computer literacy.
• Able to travel, may be asked to stay away from home on rare occasions.
• Driving licence required; you will drive to multiple sites daily.
• Happy to lone work – Some sites are unattended.
• Expected to work in all weathers; major part of the role is outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Undertake environmental monitoring, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit and Biffa instructions
• Undertake gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance
• Manage the landfill gas compound to ensure that power generation is maximised
• Undertake all duties in accordance with Health and Safety policies, guidance notes and training
• Work closely with and collaborate with landfill operational colleagues
• Supervise and manage contractors that work on specific areas relating to this role
• Collect, understand, collate and prepare data (for generator and environmental performance) as required to monitor the overall business performance, identify areas for improvement and implement these in collaboration with Management.
• Out of hours emergency assistance for gas generation issues
• Carry out such reasonable tasks as might be required by the Company from time to time.

• Monday to Friday working pattern, with on call rota of 1 day in 10
• £30 on call allowance, plus time and a half overtime if called out
• Covering the Midlands region
• 42 hours per week as standard, with regular overtime available
• Autonomy to manage your own diary and workload with home working
• Company 4x4 pick up provided, with personal use available
