Environmental & Permitting Engineer
Location: Northeast England
Reports to: Environmental Manager
About the Role
We’re looking for an Environment & Permitting Engineer to join our SHEQ Compliance team. This role will ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits, supporting operations at an upper-tier COMAH establishment.
We are committed to sustainability, aiming to exceed environmental legislation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Environmental Permitting & Compliance: Prepare and assess applications for EPR and PPC permits, ensuring regulatory requirements are met.
- Support COMAH Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental obligations for upper-tier COMAH operations.
- Deliver Regulatory Requirements: Support ESOS compliance, carbon trading, and refine ISO 14001 and IATF systems.
- Develop & Implement Environmental Policies: Lead the implementation of EHS UK policies and best practices.
- Incident Management: Document, investigate environmental incidents, and track improvements.
- Occupational Hygiene Support: Collaborate with Hygiene teams for a safe working environment.
- Regulatory Liaison: Engage with enforcement agencies and conduct audits.
- Performance Reporting: Provide environmental data and reports for strategic improvements.
- Training & Awareness: Develop environmental training strategies.
- Pollution Control & Waste Management: Coordinate waste and pollution initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
- Advanced Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
- Experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 preferred).
- Knowledge of environmental legislation, risk assessment, and compliance.
- Expertise in ISO 14001 and operational standards.
- Familiarity with UK and European environmental regulations, including EA permitting.
- Strong problem-solving and auditing skills.
- Experience in pollution control, waste management, and health policies.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD.
- Self-starter with excellent communication and leadership skills.
