Job summary

Aberdeen City Council is seeking an Environmental Operations postholder to undertake gardening, street sweeping and horticultural tasks across parks, fields, cemeteries and open spaces. You will operate a range of vehicles and equipment, and work with the Environmental Operations team to keep areas well maintained.

The role requires a Full Class B UK driving licence and the ability to communicate effectively, prioritise workloads and work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Must have a Full Class B UK driving licence.
• Experience driving a range of vehicles and operative equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
• Ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Garden general gardening work, street sweeping and horticultural tasks in parks and open spaces.
• Operate vehicles including 3.5 tonne tipper trucks and grass cutting/ sweepers as required.
• Work with Environmental Operations team and follow HR digital platforms where appropriate.
• Work under supervision while also able to act independently as needed.

Job description

The postholder undertake either individually or as a member of a team a variety of duties concerned with Environmental Operations including both general gardening or street sweeping work and horticultural work of a specialist nature in public parks, playing fields, cemeteries, landscaped areas, public open spaces, public roads, amenity areas and housing estates.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum: Must have a Full Class B UK driving licence

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

• Driving a wide range of vehicles, including 3.5 tonne tipper trucks, Ride on grass cutting vehicles, small mechanical sweepers
• A working knowledge and experience of Environmental Services teams and practices.
• The willingness to use The Councils digital platforms in relation to HR (CoreHr)
• The ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
• The ability to organise and prioritise workloads to deal with simultaneous demands and to achieve deadlines.
• The ability to work proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to the Line Manager
