European Environmental Director - Drive Sustainability and Innovation Across Europe

About the Role:

Are you a innovative Environmental leader eager to shape the future of sustainability across a dynamic, multinational organisation? We are seeking an experienced and strategic European Environmental Director to spearhead compliance, innovation, and operational excellence in a business that is leading the way in battery recycling, resource recovery, and waste management.

This is a high-impact opportunity to influence environmental standards across multiple European sites. You will ensure seamless compliance with regulatory frameworks, champion best practices, and drive continuous improvement across UK and European operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead with Impact: Develop and execute a robust environmental strategy, ensuring compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 standards across UK and European sites.
  • Set Global Standards: Establish and maintain industry-leading environmental policies and procedures that align with statutory, company, and contractual requirements.
  • Build and Strengthen Relationships: Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders internally and externally, including regulators and industry partners, to foster a positive culture of sustainability and compliance.
  • Drive Innovation & Growth: Support the development of cutting-edge technologies and processes that enhance the company's product offering and promote sustainable resource recovery.
  • Expand & Innovate: Oversee environmental compliance at existing UK, German, and French sites, while driving the environmental agenda for the new Solutions site in Spain.

About You:

  • Proven Environmental Leader: Extensive leadership experience in environmental roles, ideally in industries such as waste management, chemical manufacturing, oil & gas, or resource recovery.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of environmental permitting, hazardous processes, and evolving European regulatory frameworks.
  • Strategic Communicator: Ability to engage and influence stakeholders across multiple sites and countries, fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Technical Acumen: Expertise in maintaining and improving management systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
  • Problem Solver: A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a proven ability to navigate complex environments and implement effective, sustainable solutions.
