Job description

About The Role

Are you a curious and motivated data analyst with a passion for the environment? Are you looking for a role that lets you apply your technical skills to solve meaningful ecological and water-related challenges?

We’re looking for an Environmental Data Analyst to join APEM’s Water Data Science team at Consultant level. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their data career who wants to work on complex, real-world projects in the environmental sector. You’ll be working with experienced analysts, ecologists and water specialists to process and interpret data on water quality, hydrology, habitat condition and ecological status —contributing to nationally significant work for water companies, regulators and developers.

Your work will include data cleaning, scripting, visualisation and interpretation, using tools like R, GIS and Excel. You’ll help produce reports that make a genuine impact, and you’ll get support to grow your skills, take on increasing responsibility, and shape your career path.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need: - A BSc or MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science, data science, ecology, hydrology, maths/statistics) - At least 1 year of professional or academic experience working with environmental datasets - Competence using R for data analysis and visualisation - A working knowledge of GIS platforms (ideally QGIS or ArcGIS) - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal - A sharp eye for detail and a logical approach to problem-solving - Confidence managing your time and contributing to project work independently.

Desirable but not essential: - Experience working in a consultancy or commercial setting - Familiarity with UK freshwater monitoring datasets and policy (e.g. WFD) - Experience using version control (e.g. GitHub) or SQL databases - Membership of a relevant professional body.

We’re a remote-first organisation, so you’ll have flexibility over where and how you work, with the support of a highly collaborative and friendly team. At APEM, we value curiosity, quality and a shared drive to create better outcomes for people and the environment.

You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.

Next steps

We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.

If you think you have what it takes to join our fast-growing business, then please apply immediately on our website. All we need some basic information and your CV, we will review all applications quickly and will respond to all applications.
