Job description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance & Permitting Consultant to join our UK & Ireland EHS Team within the Environment and Energy business at a consultant grade. You will support the growth of our Environmental Permitting business across all industry sectors, providing environmental compliance and permitting support through global framework agreements and site-specific commissions. You will work with clients from established process industries, manufacturing, and power generation companies to manage compliance requirements for current and future activities. AECOM also aims to shape good compliance practices for the transition to a low-carbon economy.

This role is suited for a consultant with some post-qualification experience in environmental compliance and permitting, some health and safety knowledge, and familiarity with ISO 14001 standards. The position offers flexibility in base location, with options in Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester, or Nottingham, supporting hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities include:
  • Delivering Environmental Permit applications, variations, transfers, and surrenders across the UK and Ireland.
  • Conducting environmental risk assessments and developing mitigation measures.
  • Advising clients on legislation, guidance, and BAT standards to ensure compliance.
  • Supporting regulator and stakeholder engagement.
  • Carrying out environmental audits, including legal compliance assessments.
Requirements:
  • A relevant first degree or equivalent in engineering or science.
  • Experience in an industrial or consultancy environment, with a successful track record in environmental permitting compliance.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
  • Excellent report writing, technical review, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
