Job summary

Kingdom Local Authority Support (Kingdom) in Boston, PE21, is seeking an Environmental Enforcement Officer to uphold public health and environmental standards by enforcing local environmental laws.

You will investigate violations, issue warnings or fines, educate the public, and work with authorities, businesses and residents to reduce littering, fly-tipping and pollution. Training is provided.

Qualifications

• The Environmental Enforcement Officer role requires understanding of environmental regulations and ability to enforce them.

Responsibilities

• Enforce environmental regulations and local by-laws relating to littering, fly-tipping, graffiti, waste management, noise pollution, and other environmental concerns.
• Patrol assigned areas to detect violations and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
• Investigate reports of environmental offenses from the public and respond promptly to complaints.
• Issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) and citations for non-compliance with environmental laws.
• Prepare and serve legal documents, including warning notices and fines, in accordance with local laws.
• Conduct follow-up visits to ensure compliance with issued notices and take further action if necessary.
• Investigate environmental offenses such as illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, and unlawful waste disposal by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing case files.
• Use surveillance equipment, including cameras, to monitor and collect evidence of environmental crimes.
• Report findings to senior management and collaborate with legal teams to pursue prosecutions when necessary.
• Prepare case files for prosecution, including collecting evidence, photographs, and witness statements.
• Attend court proceedings and present evidence as required to support legal action against environmental offenders.
• Express information clearly and concisely to ensure understanding.
• Adapt to change and work effectively in various situations and weather conditions.
• Participate in our training course to gain insight into daily duties, current legislation, communication, and interaction aspects of the role, earning a recognised qualification in environmental awareness.
