Job summary

Avara Foods is offering an Environmental Compliance Apprentice role within its Environmental Compliance Team. You'll support ISO 14001/50001 compliance, MCERTS and environmental procedures across multiple sites, while pursuing a Level 4 Apprenticeship as Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner.

The role runs Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00, with training and development opportunities to build a long-term career in sustainability and compliance within the food industry.

Qualifications

• Advanced Excel skills and PowerBI experience.
• Understanding of agriculture/food systems, especially poultry.
• Experience gathering and interpreting large datasets and presenting results.

Responsibilities

• Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Review and update environmental procedures, forms, registers, and supporting documentation.
• Assist with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and MCERTS requirements.
• Support changes required by evolving environmental standards and business needs.
• Help deliver environmental and energy audits across multiple sites and track corrective actions.
• Assist with audit reporting and closing out audit findings and non-conformances.
• Develop dashboards and reports for environmental and energy metrics.
• Maintain accuracy of energy data and investigate discrepancies.
• Support environmental training and awareness initiatives.

What will you be doing as an Environmental ComplianceApprentice at Avara?

As a Environmental & Energy Compliance Apprentice you will support the Environmental Compliance team in maintaining and improvingcompliance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, MCERTS, environmental legislation, and company management system.

What will your key responsibilities as anEnvironmental Compliance Apprenticeinclude?

• Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Assist in reviewing and updating environmental procedures, forms, registers, and supporting documentation.
• Help ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and MCERTS requirements
• Support the implementation of changes required by evolving environmental standards and business needs.
• Support the planning and delivery of environmental and energy audits across multiple operational sites to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 requirements.
• Assist with audit reporting, monitoring corrective actions, and helping to close out audit findings and non-conformances.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by tracking audit performance and supporting the development of effective audit programmes and plans.
• Support the collection, validation, and analysis of environmental and energy performance data.
• Assist with maintaining compliance records, developing dashboards and reports, and monitoring key environmental and energy metrics
• Help manage energy consumption data across systems, ensuring data accuracy and investigating any discrepancies or anomalies.
• Support operational sites with environmental compliance activities, inspections, and assessments to ensure adherence to environmental standards and permit requirements.
• Assist with environmental incident investigations, follow-up actions, and promoting best environmental practices across site teams.
• Be involved in developing and delivering environmental training, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives to promote understanding of environmental responsibilities and procedures.
• Support environmental and energy improvement projects, identifying risks and opportunities and contributing to performance reporting.
• Maintain accurate environmental records and documentation, supporting preparation for external audits and certification visits.

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills - e.g. pivot table & competency in other Microsoft Office Applications such as PowerBI.
• An understanding of agriculture & food systems, specifically poultry supply chains, is desirable.
• Experience gathering and interpreting large sets of data, with the ability to present in a simple format.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to manipulate data for varied applicable audiences.
• The ability to multitask, with a strong attention to detail.
• The ability to well work under pressure to hit both external and internal deadlines.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• The ability to understand relevant issues in-depth and consistently looking to broaden your knowledge and understanding.
• The ability to work independently and proactively as a part of a small team.
• The ability to work cross-functionally across different departments and teams.
• Full UK driving license.
