Job description

Love working outdoors? Enjoy making a difference for your local community? Ready to be part of a team that keeps the railway clean, safe, and welcoming? This could be the perfect role for you!

We're looking for Environmental Cleaners to join our hardworking, friendly team based in the Bristol area. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same – one day you'll be preparing trains for passengers, and the next, helping maintain unstaffed local stations across the Bristol area.

What You'll Be Doing?

  • Travelling across a number of unstaffed stations in the Bristol region using a company vehicle
  • Litter picking, bin maintenance, poster updates, and keeping station areas clear and tidy
  • Removing graffiti, managing weeds/vegetation, and completing minor repairs
  • Using power tools (e.g. strimmers, hedge trimmers) and approved chemicals (e.g. weed killer) – don't worry, we'll train you!
  • Connecting with station community groups and supporting local initiatives
  • In colder months, helping de-ice and salt platforms to keep passengers safe
  • Cleaning and preparing our IETs at Bristol Temple Meads
  • Making sure the onboard environment is clean, safe, and pleasant for our customers
  • Providing great customer service whenever you're on the move

What We're Looking For?

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a flexible approach to working hours – start times can vary, especially in winter
  • Is enthusiastic about working with community rail groups and making local stations shine
  • Can work independently or as part of a team, using initiative to solve problems as they arise
  • Is confident using smartphones/tablets and open to learning new tech
  • Has a full, clean driving licence – a company vehicle is provided for station visits
  • Is comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

Key Details?

  • Shift work including weekends and bank holidays
  • Location: Bristol Temple Meads/Bristol Parkway + travel to unstaffed stations across the region
  • Full training provided – no prior experience with tools or chemicals required

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a team that takes pride in delivering a great passenger experience
  • Get involved in your local community and help improve the stations people rely on
  • Enjoy a varied, hands-on role with plenty of support and training
  • Use your practical skills in a role where you can see the difference you make every day

Additional information?

We have three exciting opportunities available: two full-time positions based at Bristol Temple Meads and one part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week), which can be based at either Bristol Temple Meads or Bristol Parkway.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates are provisionally scheduled for the week beginning 25 August 2025.

What to Expect?

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a competency-based interview.
  • Full training will be provided, including a 2/3-week training programme in Swindon.
