Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for an Environmental and Consents Manager on a 12-month contract based in Leeds and York.

Role Summary

We have a very exciting opportunity for an Experienced Environmental and Consents Manager to deliver and oversee environmental management for the YORKSHIRE GREEN project. The project comprises two new substations located at Overton (near York) and Monk Fryston (near Leeds).

In this role, you will be accountable for leading the delivery programme based on the low-level solution design and scope, ensuring it is completed on time and within budget. You will oversee all environmental and sustainability activities within the Smart Infrastructure team, a rapidly growing area within the UK.

This role encompasses strategic planning, project execution, risk management, subcontractor management, budget control, and client communication. It will significantly contribute to the company's sustainability goals and reputation for environmental excellence.

The role acts as a key point of contact for environmental matters across multiple projects and plays a crucial role in shaping the company's sustainable future. As a senior team member, you will engage with clients and end users during pre-construction, construction, and handover phases.

You will report processes and resolve issues primarily to the appointed project senior stakeholder. The project scope varies from small to works exceeding £0.5m, with multiple projects delivered concurrently as part of our digital growth strategy. Supporting team growth will also be a significant aspect of the role.

Main Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Planning & Implementation: Develop and implement environmental and sustainability strategies aligned with broader corporate goals and ESG targets.
  2. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead all aspects of EIAs, including scoping, baseline surveys, impact prediction, mitigation measures, and report preparation, ensuring legal compliance.
  3. Environmental Management Systems (EMS): Develop, implement, and maintain EMSs in accordance with ISO 14001 or similar standards.
  4. Permitting, Consenting & Compliance: Secure environmental permits and licenses, ensure ongoing compliance with UK legislation, and manage non-compliance incidents.
  5. Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with clients, regulators, local communities, and other stakeholders, proactively communicating environmental aspects.
  6. Subcontractor Management: Manage environmental subcontractors, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
  7. Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks across projects.
  8. Due Diligence: Conduct assessments for project sites, identifying liabilities and developing remediation strategies.
  9. Reporting & Communication: Prepare reports and presentations for various stakeholders.
  10. Budget & Resource Management: Manage environmental budgets and resources efficiently.
  11. Continuous Improvement: Keep updated with latest legislation and best practices, implementing improvements.
  12. Mentorship & Training: Mentor junior staff, fostering environmental awareness.
Requirements
  • Awareness of data lifecycle, ethics, and legislation/standards such as GDPR, BS, ISO.
  • Knowledge of environmental disciplines like noise, dust, vibration, CEEQUAL, BREEAM, carbon, energy efficiency, ecology, archaeology, arboriculture, and agriculture.
  • Experience with Grid projects or relevant energy infrastructure projects.
