The Environmental Advisor will need to undertake a hands-on advisory and implementation role. You will be part of the Health, Safety and Environment team based in Havant. Alongside our construction project delivery team, you will be responsible for assisting, advising, and implementing environmental processes, procedures, and improvement initiatives across our construction site. The ideal candidate will have an innovative approach to all aspects of construction site management, be self-motivated, practical, and a problem solver.
Responsibilities
- Work within Mackley's policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and ensure compliance.
- Liaise with site delivery teams to provide advice, support, and training on environmental compliance.
- Monitor energy usage and improve data capture to enhance energy performance and reduce carbon footprint.
- Conduct site inspections, discuss findings, and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and environmental permits.
- Manage water pollution prevention, including silt management and water sampling.
- Develop innovative solutions such as renewable energy systems for site equipment.
- Liaise with environmental specialists, regulators, and clients.
- Contribute to bids for new contracts and awards.
- Monitor objectives and targets, and report as required.
- Assist with audits and accreditation processes.
- Conduct dust and noise monitoring.
- Maintain ecology management on site.
- Design and implement initiatives to raise environmental awareness, e.g., reducing carbon and waste.
- Produce reports on site activities and contribute to monthly reports.
- Investigate environmental incidents and near misses.
- Maintain the environmental dashboard/database.
Skills & Knowledge
- Up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and best practices.
- Understanding of core environmental principles and regulations.
- Legal compliance expertise.
- Strong report writing skills.
Experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
- Enthusiastic about health, safety, and environmental issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Full UK driving license.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience.
- Recognized environmental qualification.
- IRCA-accredited QMS Lead Auditor (ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001).
- Membership of a professional body (e.g., IOSH, IEMA) (desirable).
- Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS).
- Full driving license.
- CSCS card.
