Job summary

Kier Group plc. in Oxford is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to join our Rail team.

You will implement sustainability strategy, drive improvements and provide environmental assurance across Rail projects, with a strong focus on EMS and regulatory compliance. You will coordinate with project teams, manage permits and licences, identify environmental risks, monitor performance and lead investigations.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Environmental Management, Sustainability or related discipline.
• Professional membership (e.g., IEMA) or equivalent body.
• Significant experience in environmental management with practical guidance.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to BS EN ISO 14001.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Implementing the business environmental sustainability strategy and supporting project teams in its development.
• Ensuring all environmental permits, licences, consents and third party conditions are identified, in place and complied with.
• Working with project delivery teams to identify, communicate and manage environmental risks and opportunities.
• Monitoring and measuring environmental performance to set standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Undertaking inspections and audits, investigating environmental incidents and communicating lessons learnt.

What will you be responsible for?

• Implementing the business environmental sustainability strategy and supporting project teams in its development
• Ensuring all environmental permits, licences, consents and third party conditions are identified, in place and complied with
• Working proactively with project delivery teams to identify, communicate and manage environmental risks and opportunities
• Monitoring and measuring environmental performance to set standards and identify opportunities for improvement
• Undertaking inspections and audits, investigating environmental incidents and communicating lessons learnt

Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related discipline

• Have professional membership or associate membership of a recognised environmental or sustainability body, such as IEMA
• Bring significant experience in environmental management, with the ability to provide practical advice and guidance
• Have strong knowledge and practical experience of implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certified to BS EN ISO 14001
• Communicate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, with strong presentation, relationship-building and interpersonal skills
