Job summary

Dragados UK & Ireland seeks an Environmental Advisor to support on-site delivery of the project’s environmental strategy. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will help embed strong environmental practices across the delivery team, ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 systems.

You will maintain Environmental and Energy Plans, conduct site inductions, and collaborate with construction, design and commercial teams to mitigate risks.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education in Environmental Science/Management or related Engineering field.
  • Graduate Membership of a professional body (e.g., ISEP) working toward Associate/Practitioner membership.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in construction environmental management.
  • Experience interfacing with regulators and major infrastructure clients.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the project's Environmental and Energy Plans and CEMP.
  • Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks on environmental responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with Construction, Design and Commercial teams on mitigating environmental risks.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and compliance checks.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Advisor will support the implementation of all environmental management activities, ensuring full compliance with legal requirements and corporate standards, including Dragados’s ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified systems.

This role requires active on‑site presence to help embed a strong culture of environmental responsibility across the project delivery team, supporting the delivery of exemplary standards of performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the maintenance of the project’s Environmental and Energy Plans, monitoring compliance with the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and associated management systems.
  • Ensure all personnel understand their environmental responsibilities through the delivery of site inductions, toolbox talks, and specific briefings.
  • Work closely with construction, design, and commercial teams to ensure environmental risks are understood and appropriate mitigation is incorporated into on‑site activities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and compliance assurance checks, focusing on high‑risk activities to ensure consents and client requirements are consistently met.
  • Promote a proactive environmental culture across the project, engaging with the workforce and supply chain to encourage best practices and a collaborative approach to environmental management.
  • Act as a point of contact for site‑based regulatory visits and support the Environmental Manager in fostering positive working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Produce clear and accurate environmental data for the Environmental Manager to support performance and risk management at a strategic level.
  • Maintain all environmental documentation, including permits, consents, waste records, and audit findings, ensuring they are consistently up‑to‑date and compliant.
  • Collaborate with technical specialists to assist in the implementation of practical, cost‑effective mitigation strategies for environmental risks.
  • Support ‘lessons learned’ reviews following environmental activities and incidents to drive continuous improvement in processes and performance.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training, including toolbox talks and briefings, to manage risk and improve competency.
Technical Skills And Competencies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey environmental information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • A practical understanding of UK environmental legislation, including the Environment Act 2021 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
  • Basic commercial awareness, with the ability to balance environmental objectives with project constraints.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational, task management, and team engagement skills.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certified management systems on construction sites.
Qualifications, Certifications And Experience
  • Educated to degree level (BSc or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related Engineering field.
  • Graduate Membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g., ISEP) working towards Associate/Practitioner membership.
  • A valid CSCS Card.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience, preferably in construction environmental management.
  • A track record of supporting projects with an excellent safety, quality, and sustainability record.
  • Experience interfacing with other contractors, regulators (e.g. Environment Agency), and major infrastructure clients (e.g., Network Rail, National Highways, TfL).
