Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Environment & Sustainability Advisor to join our Transport Infrastructure HSEQ Team in Scotland, working across our Scotland and NI accounts.

This is a full-time, permanent contract that offers hybrid working. The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday.

The Environment & Sustainability Advisor plays an important role in enabling the business to demonstrate compliance and achieve continual improvements in environment and sustainability.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working on projects varying in scope and magnitude throughout our Transport Infrastructure Portfolio.
  • Undertaking environmental screening assessments.
  • Screening works against environmental legislation, liaising with regulators, and undertaking licensing where appropriate.
  • Building strong relationships with statutory bodies and clients.
  • Embarking on a collaborative approach, working with environment, carbon, and sustainability professionals across Amey and others (including Clients, our key partners, and Supply Chain members) to deliver Zero Carbon Solutions, Nature-Based Solutions, and compliant, resilient & industry best practice solutions across our value chain, helping reduce the environmental impact of our construction, operation, and maintenance activities.
  • Providing environmental advice and support to operational team members to help transfer knowledge.
  • Preparing and checking reports, designs, calculations, and documentation as part of scheme deliverables that meet quality, cost, and programme criteria.
  • Overseeing the actions of junior staff members.
  • Working with other HSEQ professionals to ensure operations are within highway standards.
  • Reviewing and briefing on changes in law and standards.
  • Ensuring environmental and social issues are considered in decision-making, developing, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures.
  • Working with operational teams to identify environmental risks and opportunities, understanding interactions with the environment, and implementing control measures, including during emergencies and in a changing climate.
  • Supporting the development of environmental and carbon management plans.
  • Determining training needs, providing briefings and training as necessary.
  • Monitoring compliance through inspections and audits.
  • Undertaking environmental performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, and recommending improvements.
  • Investigating incidents involving pollution or environmental damage.
  • Maintaining ISO 14001 certification of our management systems.
  • Participating in industry groups and initiatives.
  • Championing best practices and innovation for operational excellence.
  • Providing support for work-winning activities when required.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Environment, Sustainability, and assessment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • A passion for professional and personal development.
  • Enthusiasm for being part of a high-performing team and a drive for success.

Additionally, it would be desirable if you are a member of IEMA (or similar organization) and you must hold a valid driving license.
