Job description

We're a team of remarkable people achieving an extraordinary mission: keeping the nation safe and secure.

Our work is critical. We are responsible for delivering the next warhead for the UK's nuclear deterrent, working at the forefront of nuclear technologies that keep the nation safe.

We support the government’s strategy through various facets: from supporting the weapon programme for the nuclear deterrent, supporting the UK’s counter-terrorist programme, identifying potential nuclear tests worldwide, to building an expert group in nuclear science and technology to give the UK real depth in these areas.

Start an extraordinary career; grow your skills, learn from industry experts, and become part of a community at one of the most unique companies in the UK.

Our two-year graduate development scheme offers an exciting opportunity to join our career pathway. We’re looking for talented graduates and aspiring future leaders to join us and shape the future.

This scheme focuses on the ESH&Q pathway. During the first three months, you will immerse yourself in the ESH&Q function to understand the business comprehensively. Subsequently, you will specialize in one of the following three disciplines:

  • Environment (Application deadline: Monday 7th October)
  • Nuclear Safety Case
  • Quality

*Please note you will need to select one of these options when applying.

Within your chosen discipline, you will undertake various placements to develop core technical skills and contribute to keeping the UK safe and secure.

As part of our Graduate Development community, you will be involved in projects related to nuclear warheads, threat reduction, manufacturing solutions, or infrastructure development for new facilities.

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, some technical details are classified. Rest assured, you will be engaged in highly interesting and impactful projects as part of our expert team!

Placements into real projects are central to your development, providing technical expertise and a comprehensive understanding of our complex operations. These placements are flexible to allow focus on specific technical or business areas.

All graduates will participate in a core program of leadership, business, and soft skills training, with support to pursue professional registration.

  • You are a recent graduate or will graduate by September 2025.
  • You will graduate with a minimum of a 2:2 in your degree, typically in science or engineering subjects such as:
  • Environment: Environmental Science, Management, Geography, Geology
  • Nuclear Safety: Science or Engineering degrees like Nuclear Engineering, Materials, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics, with an interest in safety
  • Quality: Science or Engineering degrees with an interest in quality
  • You must be able to join us in September 2025. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance.
  • You are a UK national who has not lived overseas in the last 10 years.

Our package includes a starting salary of £31,000 per year, with benefits such as a contributory pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement (270 hours annually including bank holidays), an 9-day fortnight work schedule, salary-sacrifice schemes, a welcome payment, interest-free loan options, regular pay reviews, structured career progression, discounts, Employee Assistance Programme, and Occupational Health Services.
