Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Limited seeks an Environment Manager for a major tunnelling and construction programme in Central and West London. Hybrid work arrangement; typical pattern is 3 days on site and 2 from home.

You will provide environmental assurance across live sites, review contractor submissions, monitor environmental performance and engage with regulators and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Experience in major infrastructure or complex construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction environmental management.
  • Experience reviewing environmental documentation, permits or contractor submissions.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and challenge performance.

Responsibilities

  • Providing client-side environmental assurance across tunnelling, shaft and civil works.
  • Undertaking assurance visits across multiple live construction sites.
  • Reviewing contractor environmental plans, permits, consents and technical evidence.
  • Monitoring compliance with environmental legislation and project requirements.
  • Supporting management of waste, noise, vibration, dust, air quality and water risks.
  • Identifying environmental issues needing early warnings or change management.
  • Challenging poor performance and ensuring corrective measures are implemented.
  • Supporting environmental stage gates, audits and performance reviews.
  • Collaborating with contractors, regulatory bodies and project stakeholders.

Environment Manager – Tunnelling & Construction
Central and West London – Euston, Acton, West Ealing
Hybrid – Typically 3 days on site / 2 from home
GBP60,044 – GBP66,048 Total Package + 12% Pension + Private Healthcare + Benefits

Are you an Environment Manager, Environmental Advisor or Environmental Consultant with experience supporting major infrastructure or complex construction projects?

This is an excellent opportunity to join the client–side team overseeing a major programme of tunnelling, shaft and heavy civil engineering works across London.

Working alongside the Senior Environment Manager, you will provide environmental and technical assurance across multiple live construction sites, reviewing contractor submissions, monitoring environmental performance and challenging areas of non–compliance.

The role covers a broad range of environmental risks including waste, noise, vibration, air quality, water, permitting and environmental impact assessment. You will work closely with delivery teams, contractors, legal specialists, regulators, local authorities and other project stakeholders to ensure construction activities, environmental commitments and proposed changes are managed correctly.

This is a permanent opportunity offering long–term progression across a major UK infrastructure programme, with exposure to a highly varied range of environmental topics, complex construction activities and senior stakeholders.

The Role:
  • Providing client–side environmental assurance across major tunnelling, shaft and civil engineering works
  • Undertaking assurance visits across multiple live construction sites
  • Reviewing contractor environmental plans, permits, consents, submissions and technical evidence
  • Monitoring compliance with environmental legislation, project requirements and environmental commitments
  • Supporting the management of waste, noise, vibration, dust, air quality, water and pollution risks
  • Identifying environmental issues that may require early warnings or formal change management
  • Challenging poor performance and ensuring suitable mitigation and corrective measures are implemented
  • Supporting environmental stage gates, audits, reporting and performance reviews
  • Working with contractors, engineering teams, legal specialists, regulators, local authorities and other project stakeholders
The Person:
  • Environmental experience within major infrastructure, civil engineering or complex construction
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and construction environmental management
  • Experience working within a live construction environment
  • Experience reviewing environmental documentation, permits, consents or contractor submissions
  • Understanding of environmental impact assessment and major project environmental requirements
  • Confident influencing and challenging Tier 1 contractors and senior stakeholders
  • Strong communication, problem–solving and stakeholder management skills
  • Broad environmental knowledge or substantial experience within a relevant environmental specialism
  • Experience within rail, tunnelling, highways, utilities, energy, nuclear or major civil engineering would be beneficial
  • Comfortable travelling between multiple construction sites across London
