Job description

Job Title: Senior Health, Safety & Environmental Manager – Residential Groundworks

Location: South East

Salary: £75,000 + Package

We are supporting a market-leading Groundworks Contractor specialising in residential projects, in their search for an experienced Senior Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager. This is a high-profile role with real influence on shaping and elevating HSEQ standards across a well-established, forward-thinking business.

The Role:

As Senior HSE Manager, you will be pivotal in driving a culture of continuous improvement in Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance across the company’s operations. You’ll be tasked with auditing, incident investigation, supporting behavioural change initiatives, and ensuring compliance with ISO standards and ESG commitments. This role will see you working across sites, offices, and yards, collaborating with teams at all levels, including board-level interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular scored audits, inspections, and thorough incident investigations
  • Collaborate with the Group HSEQT Director for strategic reporting, ESG updates, and pre-construction safety reviews
  • Champion best practices and ensure compliance with the company’s Common Visual Standards
  • Support the retention of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications
  • Attend client and regulator meetings, representing the business with professionalism and technical expertise
  • Assist in developing and maintaining SharePoint resources and HSE documentation
  • Influence safety strategies and drive a proactive safety culture across all business units

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation within construction, groundworks, or housebuilding
  • Demonstrable auditing, inspection, and investigation experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Proven ability to influence and lead at all levels of an organisation
  • Relevant CSCS card (or working towards) and a commitment to continued professional development (CPD)

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
  • Membership with IOSH, IEMA, or equivalent body
  • Experience with integrated management systems and ISO certifications
  • Knowledge of COSHH, RAMS, and Environmental best practices
