Introduction

The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting environmental management strategies and ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sustainability efforts of the mining industry and work within a dynamic team environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience working in environmental management, preferably within the mining industry.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring equipment, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse departments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
  • Certification in environmental management or related certifications (preferred).
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental protection programs in the mining sector (highly desirable).
  • Computer literacy (GIS, MS Office applications).

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of environmental management systems (EMS) to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new projects and ongoing mining operations.
  • Develop and manage environmental monitoring programs, ensuring proper collection and analysis of environmental data.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports and documentation to regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including operations, safety, and health, to ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into all mining activities.
  • Manage waste disposal, water treatment, and land reclamation programs.
  • Provide environmental training and awareness programs to staff and contractors.
  • Ensure all operations adhere to the best environmental practices and promote sustainability within the company.
  • Participate in internal audits and inspections to assess environmental performance and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Environmental laws and regulations:
  • National Environmental Management Act N°107 of 1998
  • National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act N°10 of 2004
  • National Water Act N°36 of 1998
  • Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act N°28 of 2002
  • National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, N°39 of 2004
  • ISO 14001-specific requirements and implementation of effective environmental management systems.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of international environmental conventions.
