Job Description:

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician

Telent is looking for a Trainee Traffic Installation Technician to join a talented team of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lighting specialists in the Gloucestershire area. Due to growth and demand from our customers, we are in a position to grow the Traffic team in this region. This is a “Field-based” role – the successful applicant MUST hold a full UK driving license and be prepared to travel across the region and be comfortable working in all-weather conditions.

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your field-based, hands-on experience? Do you already have Electrical Installations knowledge or experience? Do you hold an Electrical Engineering (or similar) Diploma / Certificate and are looking to kick-start a new career? Are you looking for an accredited and structured training programme to really test and develop your knowledge?

When you join our Engineering Team at Telent, you'll be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. Join a high-performing team doing complex and critical work. Help build and keep the nation's critical infrastructure connected and protected 24/7.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - What you’ll do:

As a trainee within our Traffic Signals team, a typical day would see you working closely with one of our experienced Traffic Engineers to install, maintain, and test a range of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lighting units and all Electrical components and equipment that complement them in and around the Gloucestershire regions.

Training will not just be in a classroom; it’ll be a mixture of ‘on the job’ learning, desk-based and online learning, which will help you progress towards achieving an NVQ Level 2 in Highways Electrical Installations (led by LANTRA), then the NVQ Level 3, and finally, all Sector-based certifications such as ECS and the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) Chapter 8.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - Who you are:

You will naturally have an intrigue and interest in field-based Engineering, and ideally already have some exposure to Electrical Installations – whether that’s working with electrical equipment, lighting, controllers, detection boxes, etc., or you’ve had some experience in a College course. If you don’t have experience, and you are keen to start a new career, we encourage you to apply.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - Key requirements / behaviours:

  • Motivation and willingness to learn through on-the-job and online learning.
  • Previous experience in Electrical installations or a holder of an Electrical course / diploma or similar.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide ideas – ultimately the job requires you to think outside the box and work through “fault finding” instructions and specifications.
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to use a Tablet / computer literate.
  • Able to and willing to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test to ensure compliance.

Telent - What we offer:

A career at Telent can span sectors, roles, technologies, and customers giving you the opportunity to develop, learn new skills, and make an impact. We are growing and we rely on our committed Team to deliver.

We nurture the talent that makes this happen, through our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive culture that respects and values difference, celebrating diverse ideas. We want everyone to be themselves and to thrive at work.

The additional benefits with this role:

  • Fully kitted out Commercial Vehicle and Fuel card.
  • Full fitted PPE.
  • Overtime options available.
  • Full training and access to Sector 8 / Chapter 8 certifications and NVQ training.
  • 34 days holiday, including public holidays, plus the option to buy or sell days annually OR 26 days holiday, plus public holidays, and the option to buy or sell days annually.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • A range of family-friendly policies.
  • Occupational health support and wellbeing Portal.
  • Discounts on Cinema, Restaurants, and Shopping with Telent Reward scheme.
