Job Description:

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician

Telent is looking for a Trainee Traffic Installation Technician to join a talented team of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lighting specialists in the Gloucestershire area. Due to growth and demand from our customers, we are in a position to expand the Traffic team in this region. This is a field-based role – the successful applicant MUST hold a full UK driving license and be prepared to travel across the region and be comfortable working in all weather conditions.

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your field-based, hands-on experience? Do you have Electrical Installations knowledge or experience? Do you hold an Electrical Engineering (or similar) Diploma/Certificate and want to kick-start a new career? Are you looking for an accredited and structured training programme to develop your knowledge?

When you join our Engineering Team at Telent, you'll be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. Join a high-performing team doing complex and critical work. Help build and keep the nation's critical infrastructure connected and protected 24/7.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - What you’ll do:

As a trainee within our Traffic Signals team, a typical day would involve working closely with one of our experienced Traffic Engineers to install, maintain, and test a range of Traffic Signals/Traffic Lighting units and all electrical components and equipment in and around the Gloucestershire regions.

Training will include a mixture of on-the-job learning, desk-based, and online learning, which will help you progress towards achieving an NVQ Level 2 in Highways Electrical Installations (led by LANTRA), then the NVQ Level 3, and finally, all sector-based certifications such as ECS and the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) Chapter 8.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - Who you are:

You will have a natural interest in field-based engineering, ideally with some exposure to Electrical Installations, whether through working with electrical equipment, lighting, controllers, detection boxes, or through a college course. If you don’t have experience but are keen to start a new career, we encourage you to apply.

Trainee Traffic Installation Technician - Key requirements/behaviours:

  • Motivation and willingness to learn through on-the-job and online learning
  • Previous experience in Electrical installations or a holder of an Electrical course/diploma or similar
  • Ability to problem-solve and provide ideas – the job requires you to think outside the box and work through fault-finding instructions and specifications
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence
  • Good communication skills and ability to use a tablet/computer
  • Able and willing to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test to ensure compliance
