Description
We are recruiting for an Entry-Level Pig Stockperson for a farm in East Yorkshire (YO43).
The role offers a unique opportunity to work on a 400-sow farrow-to-finish pig unit (from piglet to bacon) on a three-weekly batch farrowing system. This two-stage system involves weaners on straw and finishers on slats, with sows in straw yards and the farrowing house on slats. The unit, renovated in the last ten years, operates a wet feed system throughout, except for the weaners.
The chosen applicant will work alongside existing staff with the day-to-day pig husbandry work, including moving pigs, vaccinating piglets ready for weaning, and ensuring the pigs are fed and watered.
Person specifications:
Salary guide: £12 per hour (plus up to £16 p/h overtime) DOE.
Holidays: 20 days per year plus bank holidays.
Hours: 8 hours per day, 7 hours on a Friday. Most days start at 7 am and 6 am on Wednesday for loading bacon. The weekends are on a three-week rotation.
Note to applicants:
Tying this role with a college apprenticeship with Bishop Burton College is also possible.
