Entrust Youth Programmes Lead Instructor

Location: Staffordshire

Salary and Benefits:

WORKING PATTERN and PAY SCALE: Monday to Friday. £16.87 per hour based on a 7.5 hour day plus additional pay for evenings and overnights. These positions are on a fixed-term zero-hour contract. (Equates to £135 per day plus evenings/overnights).

Posts close: 28th February

DATES REQUIRED: May to September, with potential work throughout the year.

Entrust requires a Lead Instructor to manage the running of the Wilderness Academy and Base Camps programmes within Staffordshire. Entrust Outdoors is an exciting business with a great pedigree, we have several sites, both hardtop and tented camps in England that all have unique characteristics delivering exciting and innovative products to a rapidly expanding customer base from schools to youth groups, major charities, and MOD. We are a highly motivated company with a well-qualified and experienced staff team that share a clear view going forward of growth and diversification, delivering the highest quality outdoor education in a sustainable and commercial way.

Entrust has delivered The Wilderness Academy and Base Camp programmes since 2017. The Wilderness Academy programme provides an authentic outdoor camping and adventure experience, immersing young people in all the benefits that nature has to offer. We aim to inspire primary and secondary-aged pupils through a range of outdoor activities designed to ignite curiosity and spark adventure. Through environmental and adventurous learning activities, based in Staffordshire, pupils will find a way to 'reset' themselves as they spend time away from modern day-to-day life.

The Base Camps programmes delivered by Entrust for many years allow pupils to experience a night under the stars in the familiar surroundings of their school grounds. Pupils will take part in a range of exciting outdoor activities from bushcraft to a mini expedition, giving them the chance to develop confidence, learn new skills and help take further steps towards a life of exploration and adventure.

The post holders will be expected to:

  1. Lead the delivery of the Residential experience at the allocated site.
  2. Effectively plan and deliver high-quality educational sessions with an emphasis on safe practice, learning outcomes, and a high standard of customer service.
  3. Drive a van containing all the kit and site equipment required for Wilderness Academy and Base Camp programmes.
  4. Lead and work with the team to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements/regulations and local working practice.
  5. Coordinate the day-to-day duties of a team of staff.
  6. Follow and comply with policies and procedures around Safeguarding, incident management and recording, information security governance, health and safety, and risk assessment protocol.
  7. Deliver a full and wide range of activities (qualification dependent) if required.
  8. Be flexible in their availability to work, including evenings and overnights.
  9. Be reflective in their practice, looking for continuous development and improvement in both their own and the site's provision of the education experience.
  10. Coordinate the day-to-day duties of a team of staff and freelancers.
  11. Liaise between our clients and suppliers as needed.

Post holders will ideally have the following experience/skills:

  1. Experience working with young people in the outdoors.
  2. Current and passionate in engaging in a range of outdoor activities.
  3. Passionate about engaging young people and developing life skills.
  4. High personal standards in presentation, communication, and delivering customer service.
  5. Relevant experience working in a residential outdoor education setting and delivering outdoor education programmes desirable.
  6. Successful candidates will be invited to an assessment day and expected to attend training.
  7. Enhanced DBS will be completed for you.
  8. Suitable references will be required for this role.
  9. Essential: Full driving licence.
