Job description

Hybrid, London

6 months initial

Most Enterprise Architects end up two levels removed from the systems they're supposed to own. Decks, roadmaps, governance boards. This one isn't that.

A global consumer business is deep into a major digital transformation, rebuilding how it handles Guest Experience, Commerce, CRM, Finance and Operations across multiple regions, including its core ERP estate underpinning Finance and HR. The strategy is agreed. What's missing is someone who can turn it into solution designs that actually hold up when they hit legacy platforms, and who's still in the room when the integration gets messy.

You'll architect end-to-end solutions across those domains, lead HLDs for major programmes, and stay close enough to delivery to get hands-on when a design decision needs testing rather than just documenting. Expect to be resolving real integration problems between cloud-native services, SaaS platforms, ERP and legacy systems that weren't built to talk to each other, running PoCs to prove out technology choices before they get committed to a roadmap, and sitting in front of senior leadership translating architectural risk into commercial terms when funding decisions are on the line. Architecture Review Board governance sits alongside all of this, not instead of it.

The environment spans cloud platforms, API-led integration patterns, and event-driven architecture built on solid service decomposition and DDD principles, with ERP sitting at the centre of the Finance and HR integration challenge. Security, identity and encryption aren't an afterthought here given the scale and the data involved, so you'll need to know that ground properly, not just reference it in a design doc.

This suits someone who's operated in large, matrixed organisations before and knows how to get a decision made when there are ten stakeholders and no obvious owner. You'll have earned credibility the way architects actually earn it: by being right about the hard technical calls and willing to get into the detail when it matters, not by staying above it.

You’ll enjoy this if you:
  • Want to be the one testing the PoC, not just approving it
  • Can hold a room of senior stakeholders and a whiteboard session with a delivery team in the same week
  • Have untangled cloud-to-legacy integration problems before and didn't hand it off
  • Think in service boundaries and event flows, not just system diagrams
  • Are comfortable being accountable for a design past the point it leaves your slide deck
