Job summary

Burberry is seeking a Data Platform Architect to lead the technical architecture of the enterprise data platform in London. You will define standards for compute/storage, ingestion, access control, and performance, while shaping the architectural roadmap and governance across squads.

You will collaborate with Data Platform Engineering and Data Engineering to ensure scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive Databricks expertise including Unity Catalog and Delta Lake.
• Proven cloud-native architecture and cost-efficient design.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and environment strategies.
• Demonstrated data security design (RBAC, encryption, masking).
• Strong ingestion/pipeline architecture across source systems.
• Experience with SAP data landscapes (BW, Datasphere, S/4HANA) desirable.
• Ability to set architectural standards and governance across delivery teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain the platform's technical architecture (compute/storage, ingestion frameworks, access control, performance, capacity).
• Define and maintain architectural standards and guardrails (naming, environment mgmt, deployment pipelines, cost patterns).
• Own platform cost modelling and FinOps governance and optimization opportunities.
• Align with enterprise data architecture to ensure consistency and models are applied.
• Translate direction into practical guidance for Data Platform Engineers and Data Engineers.
• Design data ingestion architecture (batch, micro-batch, streaming) with clear integration boundaries.
• Define architecture for semantic layer and self-serve analytics infrastructure.
• Support data squads and data engineers where architectural complexity requires it.
• Ensure architecture supports emerging needs (agentic AI data infra, MLOps, analytics).
• Collaborate with senior managers to align platform operations and translation of decisions into implementable guidance.
• Provide input to vendor/tooling decisions and document design decisions and patterns.
