Job summary

Matchtech seeks an Enterprise Architect to lead Digital Engineering initiatives for sensitive defence programmes in Reading. You will guide Virtual Environment architecture, drive governance, and enable secure-by-design across teams.

The role focuses on Digital Twin integration, real-time simulation, and architecture governance across the lifecycle. SC clearance is mandatory; DV preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain HLD/LLD designs.
• Provide architectural leadership for Virtual Environment / Digital Engineering.
• Support Digital Twin / Digital Thread and virtual testing initiatives.
• Apply modelling and simulation principles including real-time scenarios.
• Translate policies into design standards, governance, and compliance.
• Support governance, security, regulatory, and audit requirements.
• Write RFIs/RFQs and contribute to tool evaluations and PoCs.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, engineering teams, IT and suppliers.

Requirements

• Strong Enterprise / Business Architecture experience within MOD, Defence Digital, or UK aerospace/defence environments.
• Active SC clearance is mandatory; DV is preferred.
• Experience across enterprise, system, data, and technical architecture.
• Strong understanding of digital engineering concepts, including digital twins, digital thread, and virtual environments.
• Experience architecting IT software development environments and working across the systems engineering lifecycle.
• A degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or Maths/Stats, plus architecture certifications such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, CISSP, or cloud architecture.
• Microsoft Azure certification or experience.
• SAFe / Agile delivery experience.
• Exposure to CI/CD and DevSecOps.
• Knowledge of Docker / Kubernetes.
• Experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI.
• Flight simulation or synthetic environments exposure.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-level and low-level designs (HLD/LLD).
• Provide architectural leadership across people, process, and technology for Virtual Environment / Digital Engineering.
• Support delivery of Digital Twin / Digital Thread, virtual testing, qualification/certification, and training solutions.
• Apply modelling and simulation principles, including real-time/time-domain simulation and a fail-first integration philosophy.
• Translate architecture policies and risk requirements into actionable design standards, governance, and compliance frameworks.
• Support architectural governance, security, regulatory, and audit requirements.
• Write and manage RFI and RFQ documentation, and contribute to tool/platform evaluations and proofs of concept.
• Work closely with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, engineering teams, IT, and suppliers, managing stakeholder expectations and delivery impacts.

We are seeking an Enterprise Architect to support sensitive aerospace and defence programmes in Reading, Berkshire. This contract role focuses on Digital Engineering and the integration of Virtual Environment solutions across our wider Digital Engineering landscape, covering people, process, and technology. You will act as the focal point for Virtual Environment architecture, providing expert guidance across the delivery organisation and helping drive governance, reuse, and secure-by-design principles across the lifecycle. The rate is up to £91.75 per hour, and active SC clearance is mandatory.
