DataVita is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to own the architectural relationship with a major public sector customer. You will stabilise, modernise, and transform a largely dedicated environment, acting as the architectural bridge between DataVita and the customer, reporting to senior governance bodies.

You will lead the environment's architecture, ensuring standardized patterns, driving Day-2 operations, and articulating clear designs.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect to own the architectural relationship between DataVita and one of our largest and most strategically important public sector customers.

This is a senior, customer-facing role dedicated to the architecture and technical leadership of the customer’s environment. The customer runs a largely dedicated infrastructure estate, with a number of managed services hosted on DataVita’s platforms. You will take the environment on, stabilise and improve it, resolve inherited issues, and lead its ongoing modernisation and transformation. On an enduring basis, you will act as the architectural bridge between the customer and DataVita, representing DataVita within the customer’s own governance, including their Joint Architecture Board, Change Advisory Board, Enterprise Design Authority, and SIAM and related assurance forums.

The role exists to hold both sides together. You will maintain a clear architectural view of the customer’s largely dedicated estate, ensure the managed services DataVita provides integrate cleanly with it, and translate DataVita’s standards, constraints, and direction into terms the customer can govern against while representing the customer’s needs back into DataVita. You will be the point of architectural authority and continuity for the account, reducing late escalation and protecting both service quality and commercial outcomes.

This role is dedicated primarily to the customer’s account. You may contribute to other DataVita projects as required, particularly once you are established in the role and the account has moved into its business-as-usual phase.

You will work closely with the Lead Architect, the wider Architecture function, delivery and operations teams, and Sales, as well as senior technical and governance stakeholders within the customer organisation.

This is a permanent, full-time position based on-site at DataVita HQ in Hamilton. Travel to the customer’s premises and to DataVita data centres may be required from time to time. This is a role that requires a high degree of autonomy, sound judgement, and the credibility to operate as a peer to senior architects and governance leads on the customer side.

Key Responsibilities

Owning the Customer Architectural Relationship

You will be the single, accountable architectural interface between DataVita and the customer. This will typically involve:

• Representing DataVita on the customer’s Joint Architecture Board, Change Advisory Board, and other design, assurance, and governance forums
• Providing architectural direction and technical authority for the account on a Day-2 basis
• Making and defending architectural decisions, and giving explicit, visible advice where standards, risk, and customer preference need to be balanced
• Building and maintaining trusted relationships with senior technical and governance stakeholders

Owning the Architecture of the Environment

You will hold the architectural picture of an estate that is largely dedicated to the customer, with a number of managed services running on DataVita’s platforms. This includes:

• Maintaining an accurate view of the customer’s enterprise, business, and application architecture and the infrastructure that supports it
• Ensuring the managed services DataVita provides integrate cleanly and are designed, operated, and evolved to standard
• Identifying where customer demand should be met through standard patterns, and where genuine bespoke design is justified
• Feeding architectural insight from the account back into DataVita’s reference architectures and technology roadmap

Leading the Service Through Take-On, Hyper Care, Make Right, and Transform

You will provide architectural and technical leadership across the remaining phases of the programme. This includes:

• Completing service take-on to standard, including ensuring service readiness artefacts such as asset and exception registers are complete and accurate
• Owning the target architecture through hyper care, and providing technical authority during the period of heightened support immediately after take-on
• Leading the Make Right programme, prioritising and resolving the major issues identified during Transition through clear, costed, and supportable designs
• Leading the Transform workstream, including low-level designs and migration waves, platform modernisation, decommissioning, and service cutovers with tested rollback
• Embedding infrastructure-as-code and platform-standard operating models where practical

Owning Design Through Handover and Change

You will act as the design authority across the life of the service, not only at handover. This includes:

• Clearly documenting assumptions, dependencies, and constraints
• Working with delivery teams to ensure designs are understood and buildable
• Governing change so that the service does not drift away from supported patterns over time

Reducing the need for late-stage redesign, escalation, and heroic intervention

Skills & Experience

• Significant experience as an enterprise, solution, or lead architect, ideally within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or Cloud Services Provider (CSP) environment
• Demonstrable experience owning the architectural relationship with a large, complex customer, rather than isolated solutions or components
• Broad and credible hands-on technical experience across compute, storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery
• Experience of large, multi-year infrastructure programmes, including service take-on, transition, migration, and data centre transformation (public sector advantageous)
• Commercial acumen, including bill of materials creation and validation, licensing approaches, cost modelling, and change control
• Strong awareness of operational and Day-2 considerations, and of the cost of unmanaged bespoke design
• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools and modern technologies to support architecture, documentation, and day-to-day working, and willing to help drive their effective adoption

Architecture and Governance Skills

• Proven ability to work at both enterprise architecture level and detailed design level, and to move credibly between the two
• Experience representing an organisation within formal architecture and change governance (for example architecture boards, enterprise design authorities, CABs, or SIAM forums)
• Proven experience producing and reviewing High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
• Pragmatic approach to balancing technical quality, commercial reality, standardisation, and customer expectation
• Familiarity with an architecture framework such as TOGAF is an advantage, though practical judgement is valued over formal certification

Communication and Collaboration

• Confident, professional communicator, credible as a peer to senior customer architects and governance leads
• Able to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfortable holding a position under challenge, and equally comfortable conceding when the evidence warrants
• Willing to take ownership and accountability for architectural outcomes across the life of the service
• Experience working with public sector or regulated customers
• Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, GDPR)
• Exposure to cloud, hybrid, or sovereign cloud platforms
• Experience in environments focused on automation, infrastructure-as-code, and platform standardisation

• Change is governed so the service stays aligned to supported platform patterns over time
