Roles of an ENP

ENPs assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge patients, often in the ‘Minors’ area of the department. They work within guidelines agreed with the clinical lead of an emergency department. Responsibilities include:

  • Patient assessment, including pain management
  • Diagnosing issues such as sprains, strains, cuts, bites, and treating minor injuries including burns and wounds
  • Reading and assessing X-rays
  • Administering medications, including antibiotics
  • Recording ECG examinations
  • Discharging patients when appropriate

ENP Role requirements

  • NMC registration
  • Recent 6 months experience within the last 12 months
  • Evidence of completion of V300 prescribing certificate
  • Full EPP clearance of immunisations
  • Two clinical references covering the last 3 years of work history
