A leading healthcare provider in Northampton seeks an Enhanced Clinical Practitioner for their Urgent Care Centre. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessments, managing minor illnesses, and mentoring juniors within a dynamic team. Candidates must possess Level 6 or Level 7 qualifications in Enhanced Practice and demonstrate experience in urgent care. This role offers extensive support for professional development, contributing to a forward-thinking healthcare service.
As an Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (ECP) in urgent care, you will undertake comprehensive assessments of adult patients presenting with a range of urgent and emergency conditions. Working within your scope of practice, you will diagnose and manage minor illness and injury, request and interpret diagnostics, and refer to appropriate services when necessary. You will use enhanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills, supported by senior clinicians, and issue medications under Patient Group Directives (PGDs).
You will contribute to safe, effective patient flow through rapid assessment and early intervention, ensuring appropriate safety netting and safeguarding referrals. Accurate documentation, patient education, and adherence to clinical standards are essential.
You will engage in clinical supervision, mentorship, and quality improvement initiatives, while completing a structured portfolio aligned with the NHS England Emergency Practitioner Framework. Professional development is supported through CPD, academic learning, and engagement with national networks.
As a clinical role model, you will contribute to service development, governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. You will also support the education and supervision of learners and junior staff, helping to shape the future of urgent care delivery., Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is on an exciting journey with all of our divisions committed to doing things better, with more efficiency as we update, modernise, and advance. We have also entered a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN). As part of this collaborative approach, there may be a requirement for you to work across both the Kettering and Northampton hospital sites, depending on the needs of the service.

Diagnose and manage a range of minor illness and injury presentations, referring appropriately when necessary. This may include direct referral to specialities'.
Work independently within scope of practice, using enhanced clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Request and interest appropriate diagnostics to inform decisions.
Seek advice and support from Doctors/ACPs to formulate plans.
Assess clinical risk for adult patients including but not limited to older people, people living with mental health conditions and acute/chronic presentations.
Utilise Patient Group Directives (PGDs) to issue medications relevant to the condition.
Contribute to safe and effective patient flow through rapid assessment and early intervention.
Ensure a safety net for patients who are discharged (examples, referral to General Practitioner, SOS/worsening advice and onward care).
Initiate safeguarding referrals for vulnerable patients.
Provide information to patients in electronic/leaflet form.
Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation.
Participate in clinical supervision, mentorship, and peer review.
Engage in quality improvement and service development initiatives
Complete a structured portfolio of competence aligned to the NHSE Emergency Practitioner Framework.
Maintain practice in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.
Adhere to organisational policies, procedures and clinical directives.
Act as a clinical role model and provide visible leadership within the urgent/emergency department.
Contribute to service development initiatives aligned with Trust and national priorities.
Participate in clinical governance activities and departmental meetings.
Lead on clinical audits and quality improvement projects within the urgent/emergency care setting.
Actively contribute to the supervision and development of Nurses.
Enhanced Clinical Practitioner - Urgent Care Centre (Springfield Urgent Care Centre, Initial Assessment Hun & Injuries Unit)
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (ECP) to join our dynamic team within the Springfield Urgent Care Centre, part of the wider Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) service.
Working alongside Doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and fellow ECPs/ENPs, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, timely care to patients presenting with minor illness and injury. This is a fast-paced, independent role requiring excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
Applicants must hold either the Level 6 Enhanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship or a Level 7 PGCert/PGDip in Enhanced Practice [60-120 credits at Level 7] (Minor Illness/Injury), with demonstrable experience in urgent and emergency care. You will be supported to develop and evidence your competencies in line with the NHS England UEC Emergency Practitioner Framework, with access to supervision, peer support, and ongoing professional development.
