Overview

BBC Learning English is seeking a Mandarin-speaking English language teaching professional to originate, create, present and publish English language teaching content for Chinese learners across digital platforms. The role involves collaborating with a team of Mandarin-speaking ELT professionals to reach Mandarin-speaking audiences and working with other departmental teams to ensure products achieve high levels of reach and engagement.

Responsibilities

• Originate English language teaching content and adapt existing BBC content for web and app platforms. Content includes image, text, video, audio and interactive elements. Present and support others in presenting video, audio and live streaming programmes as required. Proficiency in Mandarin (simplified) at a professional level is essential.
• Ensure content is produced to BBC Editorial guidelines and complies with relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.
• Monitor the growth of the Learning English and related ELT websites, analyse usage patterns, identify opportunities for expansion and opportunities to build audience reach and engagement.
• Direct a Journalism Coordinator in preparation of programme material for which the role is responsible.
• Collaborate with contributors, interviewees, language learners and other sources of material as appropriate, and think through editorial and educational challenges to develop realistic alternative strategies.
• Be involved in every stage of the production process, from scoping ideas to providing guidance and feedback, completing administrative paperwork and ensuring content is delivered on time and to spec.
• Support the delivery of BBC Learning English’s digital-first strategy and work with colleagues to originate, create, present and publish ELT audio, video, text and image content for Chinese learners across platforms.
• For this Mandarin-focused role, demonstrate strong English language skills and translation ability as applicable, and create content suitable for various Chinese social media platforms.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for digital production and ELT content, with strong technical capabilities in image, audio and video editing (e.g., Photoshop, Final Cut Pro) as relevant to the role.

Qualifications

• Professional-level proficiency in Mandarin (simplified) in all forms is essential.
• Excellent working knowledge of English with strong translation skills between English and Mandarin.
• Recent experience creating and delivering English language teaching materials for Mandarin-speaking audiences in school settings and for self-study across digital platforms.
• Strong understanding of digital production and ELT content development.
• Experience creating ELT content for various Chinese social media platforms.
• Strong technical knowledge for image, audio and video editing using tools such as Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £37,050 (plus London Weighting) depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
