Are you a passionate, creative communicator with a love for English and a desire to make a meaningful impact? Our client, a nurturing and inclusive special school set in the scenic countryside of Totnes, is looking to appoint a dedicated English Teacher to join their supportive team.

Whether you're an experienced educator or coming from a different background with strong English subject knowledge, this is a fantastic opportunity to teach and inspire students who learn differently - no QTS is required.

Our client is a well-regarded special school that supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), SEMH, and learning difficulties. The school prides itself on creating a calm, therapeutic, and engaging environment where every learner is valued and encouraged to thrive in their own way.

As the English Teacher, you will deliver creative, accessible, and meaningful English lessons tailored to a range of learning styles and abilities. You'll help students develop literacy skills, self-expression, and a love of language - whether through traditional texts, creative writing, or functional English. You'll be supported by a close-knit team of SEN professionals, therapists, and support staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver creative and accessible English lessons tailored to diverse learning styles.
  • Help students develop literacy skills and self-expression.
  • Collaborate with SEN professionals and support staff to enhance student learning.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for English Language and/or Literature.
  • Enthusiasm for working with students with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Creativity, patience, and flexibility in teaching approach.
  • Experience in SEN, alternative provision, or therapeutic settings (desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
  • Hold QTS or be unqualified with relevant experience and/or academic background in English.
What We Offer:
  • A warm, collaborative school culture with an emphasis on wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Opportunities for CPD and support with qualifications or routes into teaching.
  • A rewarding and meaningful role with the chance to see real progress in pupils' learning and confidence.
  • A beautiful, nature-rich learning environment in rural Devon.
  • Clear pathways for progression within a forward-thinking SEN setting.

This role is ideal for someone who values creativity, connection, and compassion in education.
