Job summary

A leading education recruitment agency is seeking a committed English Teacher for a school in Hillingdon, London. You will provide 1:1 tuition to KS3 and KS4 students unable to attend regular classes. Ideal candidates will have QTS, strong classroom management skills, and a desire to support vulnerable young people. This is a temporary position with potential for leadership responsibilities.

Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

We are working with a co-educational Alternative Provision based in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The school supports secondary-aged pupils (11–16) who are unable to attend mainstream education due to complex needs, including those at risk of or with a history of permanent exclusion.

The school seeks a committed English Teacher to join their Pupil Support Team. Responsibilities include providing 1:1 tuition and outreach education for students unable to access the school site due to long-term illness or other barriers to learning.

This role is ideal for an experienced, adaptable teacher who thrives in a nurturing, student-centered environment and aims to make a tangible impact on vulnerable young people's lives. There is potential for additional leadership or management responsibilities for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging and tailored English lessons to KS3 and KS4 students, both in-school and through outreach support.
  • Provide 1:1 tuition to pupils unable to attend regular classes, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Manage behaviour effectively and promote positive engagement with learning.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour and complex social, emotional, or mental health needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to monitor progress and develop personalised learning plans.
Essential Criteria:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) preferred, but relevant experience is acceptable.
  • Proven experience teaching English at secondary level (KS3/4).
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • A resilient, empathetic approach and a genuine desire to make a difference.
  • Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
